Scott Murakami
Public Health Infrastructure Grant Workforce Director at the Department of Health
Scott was born and raised in Hawaii and is a proud graduate of Kaimuki High School and the
University of Hawaii at Manoa. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology, a
master’s degree in business administration in Finance, and a master’s degree in accounting. He
is also a Certified Workforce Development Professional by the National Association of
Workforce Development Professionals.
His career in public service includes contributions to higher education, labor & workforce
development, and economic development. He has served as the Director for the Pacific Center
for Advanced Technology Training at Honolulu CC, the Director of Workforce Development in
the Office of Vice President for Community Colleges at the University of Hawaii, he was
appointed, confirmed by the Senate, and served as Hawaii’s 21 st Director for the Department of
Labor and Industrial Relations, and has also served as Economic Development Coordinator at
DBEDT.
Nationally, Scott was elected and has served in leadership roles on the Boards of Directors for
the American Association of Community Colleges, the National Coalition of Advanced
Technology Centers, and the National Asian Pacific Islander Council.
Locally, he was appointed and has served on the State Vocational Rehabilitation Council, the
State Workforce Development Council, the Economic Development Alliance of Hawaii, the Oahu
Workforce Development Board, and is a Super Donor with the Blood Bank of Hawaii.
